Bernina Red TrainThe Bernina Red Train, lately officially recognised by the UNESCO, is a charm for the tourists that find it the most beautiful in the world. Getting on this train is like a theatrical experience and the landscape n front of you is a stage offering a continuously-changing show. It is not only the nature, but also the railway itself with its viaducts and galleries that often reach impressive slopes. The route also contributes to the charm of this trip: you start from Valtellina to the woods in Val Poschiavo till you reach the glaaciers of Diavolezza, Pitz Palù and the tops of the Bernina to go down into the Engadina to Pontresina and St Moritz. This amazing and unforgettable railway journey starts in Tirano, the last stop on the Milano-SondrioTirano line. The train, composed of modern and comfortaable carriages, leaves this nice town to start a breathtaking journey (both in winter and summer) on 70 per thousand slopes till it reaches an altitude of 2253 m above sea level, it’s a unique experience. After a few km we find the amazing Brusio spiral viaduct, an open space helicoidal ramp, once we’ve passed Poschiavo, head of the valley bearing the same name, you wil reach the Alp Grum, an exceptional point of view on the Palù glacier. Once we’ve left the pass at 2253 mt above sea level behind us, at Montebello, you will enjoy the great view on the Monteratsch glacier and the Bernina group at 4000 mt above sea level. A trip from Livigno, after a 30-minutes ride to Poschiavo (suggested starting point) is surely a good idea for both adults and children. Do not forget your ID/passports as well as your camera (panoramic open carriage) and ask for your packet lunch at the hotel if you are interested. If you don’t want to use your own car, organized trips taking you to the station with the bus are organized daily. A guide is also available from the hotel and you’ll be able to visit St Moritz.
